1857/6 farthing?

Recommended Posts

couldn't see anything by eye and i know these can get a bit grotty. whcih is indeed the case inside the 7

this image doesnt show it, but it does show the detatched shamrock reverse, which was also around in 1856, having seen pictures of the 1856 i can also say the 6 does reach slightly higher then the 5 next to it (as the 7 is level the top part of the 6 would show over the top) but i can decide whether it is a bit of dirt or an overstrike, i dont see anything there at all to the eye to say it is dirt

itis only after zooming in on photoscape i found this (i always do this to check for errors etc)

Looks like there's something above the top serif of the 7, it also, whatever it is, curves, is there something under the 5 also, to the left?

yes i saw that next to the 5, i have no idea what that is as there is no reason for anything but a 5 there

The 5 could be reinforced and double cut as a result. It looks like it could be a 6 though, so a higher grade example would be nice. ColinG?

Definitely a new one for me, I have checked through my stock images, and no 1857's with the same feature. Just got to find a higher grade one now to try and prove it's existence :) Certainly one to keep an eye out for, my first thought was that the curve looks a bit too shallow on the image to be a 6...but.....
