Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum, and hope you can help? How rare is an 1845/3 halfcrown? ESC (1992), Davies (1982) and Coincraft (1999) do not identify such a variety, Spink (2009) says extremely rare, but a lot seem to be around (many more than, say, an 1817 S/I), especially on eBay. Also how obvious is the overstrike (anyone got an image)?

Gary

Hello Gary and welcome to the forum. I assume at the time of writing ESC, Raynor never came across the variety. Spink 2010 also lists as extremely rare, but last year (2009 book) they also listed an 1817 Halfcrown S/I in Pense as extremely rare but this year it has a price beside it, the reason being that perhaps not so many came through auction houses.

I don't know how many exactly are kicking around, i think it would be impossible to judge. If you have an image please feel free to upload
