I would assume that the 'H' is there or was once there and demand better photos! Krause gives $75.00 for one of these in Fine. A nice rarity! If you can find it..But can something be said for the art of filing down letters on coins?

Krause doesn't know that much about Pennies then as Spink has it at 750GBP in fine as there is only a handful known

I am fairly certain that is a typo in Krause as they are well versed in 19th C. general types and have not otherwise been far off given the volatile nature of the bun head series. Possibly the same could not be said for microtypes (who really cares anyway?).

I wouldn't touch Krause on British / Irish coins.....it is about as accurate as a Labour budget.

The Krause Books are a really good World Reference, since they cover so many countries and types of coins. I agree with Peter on the pricing issue though...it isn't always very accurate. Part of the problem is that the Krause Books are not updated yearly. Since they are four (4) volumes, Krause updates the books, usually one at a time, and thus some books can be 2 or 3 years old before the pricing is updated. I still find them to be a good reference.

krause are great at devaluing everything, maybe buying the coin nowhere near the country of origin will mean it is cheaper as there is less market, but with ebay around, we get into those markets, some of the prices are really irrelivant... no way i could get the rarer coins in there at krause price... except at the dealers. and if i could get a russian coin at krause price on ebay.. it would be a miricle

Krause are like the 'respectable' 'international' equivalent of that perennial paperback 'Coins and Market Values' (Link House) which as I'm sure all long-time collectors will remember set pretty low values up until a few years ago. Then again, so did CCGB until our Chris Perkins bought out the title.

As someone who collects world copper and bronze, I find the Krause books invaluable. My set is a few years old now, so I just use the prices as an indicator of scarcity

I think all the current price guides are next to useless in the modern market which is so volatile. Spink is ok for insurance valuation unless you collect varieties then everything goes out the window.
