I am trying to canvas opinions on digital microscopes after my current moddel decidied to stop working

I used to use an intel QX3 kids microscope which had x10 x60 and x200, which was ideal, it was simple to use, and the results weren't bad. The blighters at Intel have stopped issuing support for the product and the drivers no longer work on Windows 7/vista machines, I have searched far and wide and even tried a couple of proposed solutions but to no joy

I invested in one of the cheaper digital microscopes off ebay just as a tester, but as I thought it really is pants, the capture button is on the side of the lens, so every time you press it, the image moves/goes out of focus slightly even when clamped. the quality is crap

I know Azda has mentioned one he picked up, but I just wondered what other peoples experience is. I have a biological microscope but can not get my digital camera to work with it. I have looked at the Celestron solutions (which look pretty good has anybody tried them?), but would value others opinions

I've got a Celestron telescope and it's so powerful it can show pennies on the moon. Don't know anything about their microscopes though.

I bought a QX5, right after they came out for $49.00. It works great on XP or Vista! The QX5 is the one that is shown in the link from Amazon.com. They use to be sold at Toys "R" Us.

I must admit I assumed the QX5 would have the same problem as the QX3. Interesting to know that it definitely works on vista...hmmmmmm

I use the QX5 on two systems, one with XP and the other with Vista. I would not even be using Vista, but I bought a new portable (Dell XPS M2010) a couple of years back, and Dell would only sell it with Vista. I hate Vista! I would buy Windows 7 for the new system, but I want to wait and see if it is just another Microsoft problem OS before I do! LOL!

Mine I think is called X-Cam although all references on the box just say USB mocroscope. I got it on offer from Maplin.

Normally i keep boxes but can't seem to find the one for the scope. Although Maplin is a good place for these type of things, the details i have on the scope is that its a Traveler Model No SU 1071 This next part is on the underside on the label.

I bought a HP netbook with Windows 7 on, to tide me over when my Mac was being repaired. I thought "actually, this doesn't look bad at all". Then I tried to do a few things I'd done in OS X - e.g. Secure Empty Trash, create encrypted folders, etc. HAH! "Not available on Windows Home / Starter edition". And there's no email client either. Typical Microsoft rip off. It is pretty though, I'll give it that.

Don't know if this helps but I have used this microscope for photographing my coins for the past two years. The contraption it sits on is a gsh-up to allow crown sized coins to be pictured. As I mainly collect hammered. I find this rig covers all eventualities. Bought on line for £50 I am really satisfied with it. It's a Lindner product but I have no idea if it is still available.

Your ad doesn't say if the included software is Windoze only, or if there is Mac/Linux version too.

I think USB visual devices are pretty generic with the drivers they use, so I would imagine that the CD contains a version for Mac/Linux. You know what, I'll ask and report back.

Was it a Veho microscope you bought with the capture button on the side? If it is then you should be able to press the F11 key and that is used as a capture button also. I had the same problem with movement too when using the side button.

It is a Veho that I use (looks exactly the same as the Linder one Chris sells).

Was it a Veho microscope you bought with the capture button on the side? If it is then you should be able to press the F11 key and that is used as a capture button also. I had the same problem with movement too when using the side button.

It is a Veho that I use (looks exactly the same as the Linder one Chris sells).

I have a luechturn (sp) microscope like Azda mentioned, and it takes good pic's, but is far inferior to the QX5 (children's Microscope), which is a later version of the unit Colin mentioned. The Luechurn has a button on the unit to take pic's, but you can also use the Mouse to activate the pic process. The QX5 also has a exposure button on the unit, and can be activated from the Mouse. The QX5 will work up through MS Vista, but will not work with MS-7. Like Colin's unit, the QX5 is not made or supported by MS anymore, but can be found on eBay occasionally.
