Hello and good evening.

Firstly I have not read all the rules of this forum so apologies beforehand.

I am NOT a coin collector, unless of course I take into consideration my collection of full sovereigns (I have had one given every birthday since born, by my parents, so quite a few really).

I have come on here to ask about where (dare I say it, because it has probably been discussed to death) do I take a large number of these 'mule 20p' coins so they go into collections and NOT 'cashed in' on eBay?

Only last week I went through some bagged coins I had from the bank in 2009 and discovered THREE full bags of these coins, so 150 in total and are in almost unmarked condition.

I have noticed that they are selling for high amounts on the auction site. I am not interested in making a profit on these (I don't need the money) so certainly would not expect anyone I gave them to, to do the same! I may consider giving them to collectors but would need to be assured they would not end up been sold on for profit.

Mr F

the last figure i heard of from the mint is that around 250,000 have been accidentally released into circulation.

Good evening.

I have not yet decided what to do with them. A charity would be the obvious choice. I have contacted the Mint direct today, spoke to some dumb-wit receptionist but 2 hours later got a returned call from their customer-investment manager. He offered to 'take them off my hands'.

Further into the conversation I asked a few questions why 'they' were keen to have the coins returned, considering the £100 they are offering to the general public. I have discovered that THEY are the culprits in the high sale price mainly to protect their own investment, after all they are a private, profit-making company. They will build up a collection of these coins to send out to their own highly valued customers, (some of which spend £1000's or even 10's of 1000's each year with them) purely as a 'thank you' for their custom. After all, who would want a free gift sent if it was not worth anything?! With the Mint offering £100 gives the coin an instant inflated value. It seems that as time goes by they may put the price up again and again, therefore giving the 'free' gift a VERY high value. I was told that a max of ONE coin could be traded for £100 per household, that person having to give details of email, address and phone so hopefully would become a customer buying proof sets etc for years to come. I was offered £250 for ALL my coins as a 'good-will gesture'

I say to anyone who has these to keep hold of them and see what happens in the next 12 months as I think the offer may double form the Mint to make these gifts worth having.

that would be the London Mint then, as opposed to the Royal Mint (no relation!). You'd be amazed at how many people thought they wdere dealing with the people that made the coins in the first place. They are not!

Lets make this clear...The London Mint are tacky coin dealers and nothing to do with the Royal Mint.

Ouch. Isn't that the Final that Bob Paisley was dropped for? From my own perspective, 1989 was the year that really hurt. I don't think the League will ever come down to a closer finish though...

Agreed!

They get bog standard coins in bulk, check if their are any ones over the value of 10p, chuck on a layer of colourful enamel and sell them to the public for £200.

Ooh, so Woy has been booted into touch B) I can't say I grieve. But also, I don't see King Kenny as being the universal panacea he's being touted as. Still, as long as he has the dressing room, and as long as the New Yanks give him some money to buy a few players... (I'm thinking that John Barnes, Peter Beardsley and Ray Houghton might do the trick :D )

I don't think the problem at Liverpool is the manager (let's face it, Roy Hodgson was about the best around in August this year) but the lack of quality in the squad probably brought about by cash constraints and the bizarre owners you've had in recent years. Personally I think Liverpool could have some way to fall yet. However, every cloud has a silver lining and if you ask me nicely, I can get you a free ticket for the away league match at Wycombe Wanderers.

At least the other three are still alive! On the other hand, I wonder if that would make much difference

I'll remember that! But won't we pass you on the way up? Hopefully we will get some players soon. I'm still waiting for Fergie, Giggs, and Scholes to retire - that could signal the beginning of the end of another red empire...

This thread is suffering from acute subject drift, but hey I'll go with the flow. Although they too are suffering from unpopular owners, it's not Manyoo that I want to see in free fall, at least they have some kind of sustainable business model despite the owners debts being lumped onto the club, no I am waiting for the day when Roman Abramovic decides he would rather have a Formula 1 racing team than a football club and Chelsea head back to the Southern League at the speed of a Peter Osgood piledriver.

I'm afraid when it comes to the League title I'm an ABU man (see we haven't drifted that far :D ) - Anyone But United. That means I would (just) tolerate another title from Chelsea, but better by far: City, Arsenal or Spurs. I couldn't bear Utd to inch past our record.

Not a chance. City fans are addicted to mediocrity. Success would result in mass disorientation. The NHS wouldn't be able to cope with the repair bill.
