St George Gold(?) Coin... Please Help

Hi,

I just bought a small job lot of old coin.

I'm stumped with one little gold(?) coin and I can't find any info on it.

The size is 16.5mm dia and it has St George slaying a dragon on one side & two lions holding a cross on the other side.

Is this coin of some value ?????

The coin is dated 1979.

By its colour the ring look gold but I'm no expert. this ring mithg have fallen out of a finger ring or something, becouse it stil has some marks on one side.

Any ideas folks ?????

Not a clue, but obviously of private manufacture and certainly not a British coin. It's almost certainly not gold, but you could weigh and measure it, then compare it to the dimensions of a sovereign which weighs 8g and is 22mm in diameter, 1.7mm thick. Those figures should be close enough to establish if it is brass or similar, which I would expect. Unless anyone know differently that is.

its 9ct gold and made to look like a sovereign ring. this would have been sold as a george and the dragon coin ring back in the day.

the disc would have a bezel to fit over and into the ring.

now days they stamp these all in on piece disc and bezel with the lugs to fix them into place.

nice piece really and would make a nice necklace or ring again
