hi i just brought a old undated 20p coin for £2.00 is there any valve to a old 20p thats undated head side at all.

If the date is on the reverse, then no. Put your £2 down to experience. :(

Only completely undated 20p's are worth anything.

The undated tails side is worth 20p...the undated both sides will get £40 to £60 but be aware this will drop back to £15 to £30.Why mugs were paying £300+ defeats me.

Sadly coins this recent even if in really briliant condition are not worth much at all. Pennies, not pounds.

As to the undated 20ps, you can now buy copies of them off ebay Undated 20p which can't but have a negative effect on the value of any still around I'm afraid.

Is it a circulated coin? Those edge legends are the first to wear. But if it's clearly an error, you could put it on eBay as such and see if you get any bites?

Try uploading a picture at coinpeople....Predecimal isn't a banknote forum although if British we could give a value.

Condition is everything...so don't iron it.

Is it there ?

If not, you could try emailing a scan of it to this fellow;

As Peter says though, condition is everything.

whats the value of a 1915 GEORGE V, ONE PENNY COIN

Difficult one to find in top condition, that one, so on the assumption it's not too good, you might get a couple of quid for it on ebay.

If by chance it does turn out to be uncirculated, then maybe £40.

It's not an exact science.

I think a more realistic assumption would be that the coin is in average condition for the year, ie. 'fair'. There are dozens of such coins listed on eBay, not selling for their 99p starting price. If they could sell for 99p, I for one would be listing a thousand or two tomorrow! I think 10-20p each is about all you could expect.

Agreed. Such pennies were a staple of the 'dreaded auction lot'. You know the one "...huge collection of (mainly) 20th Century coins. In three large cardboard boxes." The one where you thought "Shall i? Nah, sod it, life's too short."

I should have done what you did. Instead I thought, "Go on then...." and ended up with an awful lot! Actually I had a good excuse because for 10 years I ran an arcade with my collection of old penny machines at my daughter's school Christmas Fayre. I let the kids take winnings away and got through a few hundred each year. So I had to replenish my stock!

what sort of coins could you buy that are rare if you on a small budget

Unfortunatly rare coin and small budget don't appear side by side in the same sentence.

Not many unless you find them in antique shops, car boot sales or hidden amongst other stuff in general auctions.

My advice to any new collector is to buy the very best that you can afford.

The most affordable coins at the moment are probably farthings and halfpennies as neither are particularly well collected at the moment (dons tin hat in preparation of attack from Colin and Peter). As such quite high grade pieces are freely available at decent prices and their day will come at some stage!
