T over T in BRITT on 1860 farthing

Recommended Posts

Hi,I picked up this nice tb.1860 farthing recently and noticed the T over T in BRITT.

I cant seem to find this particular type mentioned anywhere and wondered if other members had seen it before?

Maybe check Colin Gs website, he's the farthing man of the forum. www.aboutfarthings.co.uk, nice find though

I think that what you have is more interesting than valuable or particularly noteworthy. As has been said dozens of times already, 1860 was a year (as were 62 and3) littered with minor anomalies and none are worthy of particular mention unless they are mules or corrected errors. T over another letter would be a find worthy of recording.

Even in the pennies (which are very strong at the moment) it is not uncommon to find unrecorded overstamps that are nice to keep as part of your collection but not of any great importance.

The value really makes no difference as i would not sell anyway,i agree with you it is an interesting and unexpected find and makes a nice addition to my collection.

Here is a picture of the obverse in full, not a brilliant pic as the daylight has gone. In hand the coin is quite dark and has just a small amount of lustre remaining

That's a new one for me :)

If you would be willing to send me scans/photos of the coin in question, I will get it added to the site, it is a nice clear repunch.

I would say it should add a slight premium, I would certainly pay a bit more than the norm for it if I saw it for sale ;)

Fascinating find thanks for sharing :)

Thanks

Colin G.

Maybe you can post them here also, or at least the OBV picture in hi res, you have 150KB max, so use the limit, its an interesting find
