A New Penny design I cant find any info on

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I'm afraid I'm not knowledgeable on coins at all, but I certainly notice when I pick up a coin with an interesting design :) And today when shopping I picked up a 'New penny' with no queens head on it so I thought I'd look it up on the internet.

I cant find any information on this kind of penny, so I wonder if any of you have seen a design like it before?

On one side It says 'NEW 1 PENNY', with a bird (I think a sea gull) in the middle, and '1971' at the bottom. On the other side is an image of the Royal Arms of England (coat of arms with 3 lions) and some latin (I think) around the edge.

I'm very curious as to how common this is, because all websites I look at say the New Pennies of 1971 all have the same design, and dont say anything about the design I have found.

If anyone here could give any information on this or tell me if its common/you've seen it before I'd appreciate it very much :)

It's from Guernsey - the Channel Islands and the Isle of Mann have their own coins

:)
