1983 Piedfort £1

Recommended Posts

I have a 1983 £1 piedfort which is the first ever one and is rather collectable. I'm asking the guide price of £125 and am happy to be paid with paypal or cash on collection. Postage in UK £5 sorry UK only. Message me for pics if interested.AJWcoins.co.uk

Wow, you have a signed VIP certificate from the Royal Mint that this particular coin was the first one off the presses? Got to be worth more than £125.

I'd be happy to be paid full Spink book price for one of those too.

If it's that collectable, surely the right place is in an auction because more eyeballs will see it.

Anyway, if it is serial number 1, then all you have for certain is the first COA printed but not necessarily the first coin. The coins are not going to be struck next to the printing presses with limited runs fully automated including packaging.

Not to spoil the fun here, but are you sure he didn't simply mean that 1983 was the first year a £1 coin was produced? That's how I read it anyway.

That's how I read it too. Hence my 'LOL' - I thought Peckris was being funny .. maybe not? And as Rob says, while I guess the 'first ever' might have been whisked off for some VIP any with a COA will just be in the order that some RM blokey (or lass) stuck them in the box.

Lot of fuss over a small lump of bullion worth, what, .. less than an ounce of silver .. £18?? MELT THE LOT DOWN!!!!! :D
