I've put them on my watch list. It will be interesting to see how much they go for - someone's gonna get quite a bargain if they're all the same condition as the ones shown in the pictures. The bag's pretty nice as well

Yeah, they look very interesting, even if they sold slowly they could certainly be worth having. You keep your eyes peeled on ebay HPJ, I don't have time to look for potential bargains much.

I will keep 'em peeled Chris! I generally look at the modern milled section daily if I can.

Jon... You certainly found what has to be the most unusual and at the moment undervalued British coin auction on ebay. Hopefully we'll soon be seeing these farthings offered (one at a time) on Chris' website. How is your halfpenny collection progressing? How many and which dates do you still need to complete it?

I have been busy filling dates in the past three months or so. This is my collection so far:

1901 UNC good listre

1903 BU full lustre

1908 BU Full lustre

1909 BU full lustre lightly toning

1910-UNC good lustre

1922 BU full lustre

1924 BU full lustre

1925OH BU full lustre

1925ME BU full lustre

1930 BU full lustre

1931 BU full lustre

1932 BU full lustre

1934 BU full lustre

1936 BU full lustre

My faviorite coins are 1908, 1924, ans 1925ME because they are all so choice.

They look really nice. I wouldn't mind having one of them, but that's the trouble, I would only want one. I don't see why you would want 99 of them...

I imagine the seller would sell them one by one over a long period of time to get a maximum profit. However, a re-calculation of their value would be in order because this is a previously unknown hoard. The same thing happened when a small hoard of 1882H farthings was discovered a few years ago un BU GEM condition.

Really? I never heard about that hoard. How many coins were there in it?

I am not sure, but Colin Cooke offered 'a few sparkling gems' at £45 each about a year ago, he is still selling them so I would imagine that he bought quite a few of them.

Yeah, that is nice. He only seems to have one left! I wish I had £45! :(

He may have more, he just lists another one after he sells one.

Very nice collection Jon! Will you expand the range of dates you collect once it is completed or move on to other denominations?

I am not sure yet, I will either expand into earlier half pennies or collect farthings between 1900 and 1936 to match my half pennies. I still need the 1902LT half penny though. I saw one at the coin fair in UNC good lustre but had a massive £250 price tag. Maybe Wybrit will sell me his one in about a years time, who knows! :D

I don't suppose you have any 1841 silver proofs?

JMD...No 1860s. It does include a number of pennies and patterns that are presumed to be pennies. This was a period of experimention with potential candidates for a decimal coinage and as I recall the reverse of one of these patterns bears a remarkable resemblance to that of the contemporarary US one cent.

Jon...No 1841 silver proofs..never had any interest in either the silver or gold coinage of the period. I do recall examples of an 1841 copper proof penny coming up for auction from time to time.

how much do pattern pennies go for (£$€) usually?

I wish I knew with any certainty. In terms of £, I'd say between 700 and 1500. That's quite costly for just one coin, but on the other hand it is a very limited series and it's not often that more than one or two of them come up for sale in a given year.
