I saw that coin a few days ago. The vendor asked £3995, and requested an offer.

Even without an H I wouldn't pay 4 figures for such a badly worn coin.

Can't see any trace of an H, but who knows. I'm not convinced there were ever any London mint pennies that year. There may have been die issues at the Heaton mint, however.

I saw it as well. Gouby lists this coin as being Obv. P Rev r. Freeman does not list an 1882 no H. The Obv P does not have the R and I of BRITT touching and REV r should have a flat and not convex shield. Even if these are correct it could still be an altered coin and I would certainly not pay four figures for it. The Gouby value is £500 in Fine condition which this coin is clearly NOT

I'm not convinced about this one. Looking carefully at the base of each numeral, I can see a shallow depression across them all, which makes me wonder if this has been skillfully altered. In the ebay picture, there's a very clear light line across the numbers which looks very suspicious.

David, It looks ok at a distance, but the Flyer should have added the 20x magnification he said he used, for all to see.

It's no coincidence that all the 1882 no H pennies offered also appear to be generally devoid of most detail. What price a no obv. portrait 1882?
