Anyone see anything wrong with this?

Recommended Posts

This is 1 of 4 coins i got from a German auction. Weight is correct, the dia should be 38.6mm this is 38.75 give or take. I'll photograph the rim in the morning to show you why i'm concerned about it, but for now, can anyone see anything wrong with it?

Sorry in advance for the big pix, these are for attribution purposes Peck :rolleyes:

Ok, so these next 2 pix was why i was a little nervous about this coin. I'm begining to think that it might be normal on this crown as i though the 2 lines were at opposite ends of each other, they are in fact at the begining of the ET TUTAMEN and end of the same. Am i right in thinking its the norm as i've never had a Crown so don't really know.

The collar is actually in 3 pieces with joins as follows;

DECUS/ET

TUTAMEN*/ANNO

REGNI/L...

The joins on some coins can be more noticeable than others.

Thanks for that Derek, was a little worried initially :ph34r:

It looks kosher, though very possibly cleaned.

The edge collar can be quite variable - my 1893 is distinctly different in character than my 1900. Not a cause for undue worry I think.

None of that series is rare, and therefore not subject to the forger's art IMO.

By the way, your pictures resized for my screen, like everyone else's do. Did you upload them using a different method than normal?

Yes - it isn't a penny.

I agree, it could be the saturation or the colour of your pictures but it looks too white, almost like it has been dipped too many times.

The more I look at the reverse the smaller the horse seems compared to St George....and the dragon is the size of a cat. :o

Possible - but if you look at GRA B and the upper crown between, you can just see what looks like original toning, making the cleaned scenario a distinct possibility. But it should retone, one would hope.
