Help needed please

Hi,

My sister and I have inherited a coin collection and we're currently exploring our options. There are 20 gold sovereigns (1842, 1843, 1844, 1864, 1871, 1893, 1898, 1911, 1912, 1915, 1918, 1919, 1917, 1957, 1966, 1967, 1973, 1974, 1976). Do these have any inherent value to them or are they simply worth the current gold price?

Also, would it be prudent to get the coins valued by a dealer (in the UK)? We have some Mexican and Chilean gold Pesos and a US gold coin.

Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

In general, the earlier dates stand a better chance of being worth something above the bullion value, especially the 1840s sovereigns as there are a few rarer varieties. Also the later Victoria and George V sovereigns can have additional value dependent on the mint mark.

As always, condition is key to determining a value. If you can upload pictures, I'm sure someone will help with grades and values.

Agreed with Nick, and with the Sovereigns alone, they make about 250 quid each just in bullion, so there's 5k alone in Sovereign bullion, best to weigh the other mexican and American Gold coins you have.

Some pictures of the earlier Sovereigns would be helpful to determine if they are bullion value only or have numastic value, ie: worth more as a collectable coin.
