Evening all. I have finally purchased a few engraved love tokens (purely on the basis that I liked the look of them and they were affordable) It is rather liberating to purchase some foreign coins which I would otherwise not have entertained. I am however sorry to say that I know very little about them! Just wondered if any of you out there might be able to give me some extra information such what percentage silver / common year etc. Here’s one I think its AVF?

Do you have the size? All I can say is it's French, Louis XVIII, possibly a franc? And for its date, probably solid silver. More than that I can't say.

Its 18mm diameter looks about the size of a 3D.

A few cents then - it looks like the value has been rubbed off in order to create a blank area for the engraving. Nice coin with an interesting story :-)

Thanks guys, I'm sure it is a half franc. Here is another one I bought from Andy Howitt ( thanks for the tip Tom) I looked it up on the net and was surprised to find that its culpro -nickle. I assumed that most silver coloured coins from the 19th Century had some siver content. Something else learnt.

Yes, that looks cupro-nickel. Whereas your original post looks definitely silver.
