Ok so I thought about it and it seems that it may be workeable. If any daft beggars in here are collecting those infernal decimal 50p varieties ( olympic or other ones) I would like to propose a swap for them, or you can buy those I do have duplicates of for their face value and 1st class postage/recorded delivery. None of those I have are uncirculated or proofs, merely those I got from the bank or my wifes shopping travels. I know, their not worth a lot but hey some of us are driven to collect even if it isn't pre decimal.

Let me know what you think, insults on the back of a George III twopence please.

I've got three Geoff Hursts, two Martin Peters, two Bobby Moores, but no Roger Hunt yet (...I'll rephrase that...). Swapsies anyone? I'm afraid there's no bubblegum left in them by the way... :D

I, for one, collect decimal as well as all the other English milled, so I would be happy to go in for swaps. I actually only have 13 of the 2011 olympic 50ps, so I'd be looking for any of the missing ones. I don't have any spare olympics at the moment, but I can offer up a Girl Guides of 2010 and a 2008 Britannia. And before anybody groans about the britannia, be aware that it was quite a low mintage, prior to the new design and is, therefore, more difficult to find.

Assuming they're 16+, perfectly legal :P Unless they didn't consent of course, but who's going to believe a girl guide's word over a numismatist? :D Oops this is getting into very shady waters...

Isn't a girl guide under 16 by definition?! If so, even if they are openly gagging for it, you still get done for statutory!

My first wife and I once spent a happy week at camp with a bunch of girl guides, one of whom was a fabulous natural blond, wonderfully curved, blue eyed stunner (excuse me while I go off into flights of fantasy for a moment). The only problem was when she opened her mouth - ee, gor and blimey made Essex girls look sophisticated. She'd be about 40 now but I bet she's still a stunner.

No, you're thinking of Brownies  Girl guides can be big strapping wenches (so I remember, or was that just a dream I had...)

Sorry - Guides are only 10-14 now... think they re-jigged everything a couple for years ago (about the same time that they did Scouts) - over 14 and they are just called 'seniors' :o

Hopefully that will make life easier for you in future!

Oo er. For all the misapprehensions that exist about the golden age of a bygone era, you have to admit that life was a lot less complicated growing up when we were young. The only boy guides were those at school open days and scouting for girls started during adolescence. Much, much easier then.

Getting back to the original post I think you're out of luck on the 50p front.

I had a quick trawl on ebay today and apparently 90% of the Olympic issue shite stuff is RARE

Funny that, most of the other coins on there are too. we must have had some real shortages of cash in this country over the decades, still have as it seems
