Hi Guys,

Hope you don't mind me asking, but you seem like a friendly bunch.

My brother found what appears to be a gold coin in a garden in Berkshire. It has Henry Tudor 1485 on it and there is some other wordage: castrum haver fordale

One side has a galleon - the other a kind of castle gate

I will get it scanned tomorrow so you can see but does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,

Keir

I don't know much about hammered coins, but I doubt a real one would state 'Henry Tudor' on it. 1485 was Henry VII, but I think all the legends were in latin, so 'Henricus', not Henry Tudor.

I would suppose it's a modern repro, but don't take my modern milled orientated word for it.

I think Chris has the final word on this one. If it is gold, you have at least the bullion value to cash it in for, otherwise a deserving niece or nephew might like it.
