I'll be going on Sunday as there's a couple of lots that interest me. Is anyone else planning to attend?

Unfortunately I'm away working but there looks to be some nice Pennies on offer, the 1843 and 1856 caught my eye but I'm all spent up this month ... Saving myself for the Heritage auction later in April ... Good luck anyhow hope you get some new acquisitions!

I noticed those too :)

Just followed the link to your coin pics.... some very nice pennies there! You're welcome to view the (unfinished) site for my penny collection Here

Thank you sir and ditto, you have a very nice collection indeed! I am in the process of rebuilding my collection after having to sell a large number of coins a few years back ... It's a long (and more expensive) road, but immensely enjoyable nontheless! I am hoping to get all the descriptions and provenances for my coins written up over the next couple of weeks ... Good luck at the auction and I look forward to seeing more pics soon!

I might be going on the Saturday, the Sunday would be better for me in terms of the auction content, but I have another commitment then...

None for me. I used to love their sales but precious little of late. Be interesting how prices fare....

I'm in two minds. I only want one lot.

Me too - though looking at DNW for the following week, there is one (the only lot there that I'm interested in!) that I would want more, and no way I could afford both!

Quite a nice 1869 penny though...

I'm in two minds about going, it would be Sunday though. I've got three lots in the auction so please bid freely, I mean feel free to bid.

I'm looking at one of your lots as a possibility , at least I assume the F176 is yours? :)

Drop me an email if you want me to bid, Rob.

Thanks Steve, but the images arrived two days ago for the lot I was considering and as a result became less interested. I've gone from being willing to push the boat out to seeing if I can get it cheaply with a view to selling on. I'll probably lose out to those that collect by numbers though.

A reasonable day spent at Bracknell (4 coins) but a few disappointments over grading. A couple of the 'big' coins just looked much poorer in hand than their grades/photos would suggest. I also noticed again (or so it appears) how often the top postal/email bid is used to start the bidding, so that absentee bidders tend only to win at their maximum price. These two reasons alone justify taking the time to attend.

How could you possibly know that?

I did say 'appears'. I noticed that, in most cases, when the sale of a lot was started with a postal/email bid that was then outbid in the room, there was rarely a counter bid from the initial bidder. This suggests to me that the maximum bid was used to kick-off the sale. You might interpret it otherwise?

Sorry Rob, I didn't record that lot (was having a beer and sandwich prior to the slabbed pennies!)

That does sound odd, but I do know from personal experience of London Coins that I have won many absentee lots below my maximum.

Fair enough. I don't want to suggest anything other than that the process is far from transparent and that, by being in the room, I feel in control of my bidding.

I have put bids in way over estimate (absentee bids) and been blown out of the water. If I want a couple of £200 coins I'm hardly going to spend the best part of a day and £40 in fuel and still may miss out.Auctions can be too clinical.

I'm trying to muster interest from Mrs Peter for a pleasant romantic spring weekend in Harrogate in a few weeks time. ;)
