Good job I'm out of the Force now. I used to live on hot pies (and doughnuts of course).

Now there's a thing, what if the doughnuts have just come out of the oven and they're hot? Can they be sold immediately without VAT going on? Do they incur VAT if they are still hot? Do they have to be cooled before they can be sold? Grrrrrr where's confused dot com when you need them????????????

Anyway I know a posh bloke and he eats pies all of the time. He told me he will not be able to afford them now and will have to stick to caviar and jellied truffles.

I worked near a Greggs in Canning Town(Jubileee line) only a 195mile comute and quite frankly the choice between Greggs/Eels and pies or Asian delights was awfull.Ban em all I say.

Happily I now work with a cheese and onion flat bread, proper sausages and the occasional pint of lunch time ale or a nice Greek salad followed by a siesta. :) Istill like a Curry when fueled with Minovois and a gut full of Abbot. :P

I had one of those 'veg pot' things today which had the nerve to call itself an 'Indian daal' [sic]. No! It was certainly a bit spicy and contained lentils / split peas. But it was more a kind of "what you might get in a vegetarian restaurant in Bognor Regis" sort of affair. I dunno about you, but to me a dhal should have oil seeping around its edges and have a strong taste of garlic! Both features sadly lacking I'm afraid.

I'd never even heard of Greggs until yesterday. Now I hear about nothing else. Can't say I'd ever be rushing out to fill up on pies (with or without the vat)!

Why all the talk about pies? Is this anything to do with the much reported pastie scandal?

You need to make your own to really appreciate the qualities of the great British pie. A nice turkey, ham and leek or a good game pie. Greggs are just pish.

Mrs Peter's chicken pie is stunning.I won't knock Greggs because they are OK.

Home made is the best as at least you can see what is in it.

I like a farmers market and fresh fish. How many have my daughters friends never eaten real food?

I have served up lobster/cromer crab and brown shrimp with hot home made bread & the yuckie salad with a good balsamic vinegar...gone...I still like a bucket of KFC with a couple of Ossie largers :P

Looks like the Government is running out of things to tax. To tax a pie is scandalous, next it will be sandwiches, bacon sausages and eggs. Tories, Labour whoever, they're all as bad as each other, full of sh%t. I reckon Mickey Mouse would do a better job than any of these idiots........

Labour's head prime minister wannabe was on tele yesterday giving snitch and snatch a good bashing about the petrol fiasco and was asked about the pie tax, didn't say two words about pies just answered with more fuel bashing. Don't think there's going to be much help from that quarter.

That bloke is quite possibly the smarmiest, slimiest wet lettuce leaf that ever drew breath. Labour were more electable with Kinnock in charge, at least the guy had some beliefs that were his own rather than what he thought people would want him to have. I bet Kinnock eats pies as well!
