Thouhg this might help next time anyone asks how many of these were actually minted. This is from the national archives at Kew (retrieved by a fellow collector) Letter is dated Feb 1935, so even back then there was some serious collectors

What's odd is that there are 6 pennies listed above - yet I've always understood there were 7.

If you actually read it and try to read between the lines it states that the bronze pennies that were struck in the first instance in connection with the laying of the foundation stone and ends with no bronze pennies dated 1933 have been sold to the public or are available for sale

It is also most likely that a 1933 Penny was supplied to the King as he was an avid numismatist (this is only an assumption on my part and may not be correct).

At no point is it stated or claimed that only 6 of the 1933 Pennies were struck. Read into that what you will......

yes absolutley - it's kinda odd they made no mention of the royal collection - but listed the specimen for the BM collection. Weird.

Do we know where all these currently are?

I presume the one in London University is still there (else someone dug up the building without anyone noticing),

the BM coin and the Royal Mint coins presumably haven't gone far.

But what of the other two?

One we know sold, and one supposedly stolen- I've been searching for references to this but so far without success - anyone have access to the "Times" database of past news articles?

Really, in reading this, I don't see the letter as having solved ANYTHING in terms of numbers ultimately struck and/or released (i.e. "in the first instance"...). How many other "instances" might there have been?

Funny how even with the somewhat muddy phraseology how it reminds me of many legal papers that have so very many loopholes.

There have been a couple on eBay, plus one on Antiques Roadshow (which was a dreadful copy). I have pics of these somewhere.

I did acknowledge the source, i didn't name the source as it came from somewhere else and i thought i'd add the letter here, i don't personally know the source, so my apologies if i did'nt help you in any way......
