1910 Shilling

Another recent acquisition, Eddie 7 can be difficult, and some like toned and some not, what would you fine people offer for this one (theoretically)?

Very little, I'm afraid. There were more 1910 shillings minted than any other Edward VII date. I would suggest you wait for a better one.

I think Paulus already has this.

As Nick said it is the most common Edward V11 1/-.

It nearly accounts for 60% of all Edward V11 1/-'s minted.

Ah yes, so he does. As I said, "It's lovely" :)

The grade is difficult to assess from the picture.

However a good price would be £35 ish for EF to £75 UNC.

Apart from 1905...1903,04 or 08,09 are the better dates.

It doesn't look any better than VF from the pictures. Value would be about £5-10 depending on how you sold it.

I'd say GVF or +, but it looks as though it's been polished at some time, unless that's the photo. I'd grab it if it was one of the scarcer years but not a '10.

That's certainly an EF example. So Paulus' coin - just looking at wear alone - is very close to that. Flattening on the upper beard, and hair above the ear. But the reverse shows very little flattening, and Edward's ear is only just beginning to flatten. I'm not happy about the possible cleaning history though.

If you are still only using Ebay I would suggest a visit to the one of the monthly Midland or Wakefield coin fairs. When you have seen the 100th example of the same coin you realise it isn't rare. The dealers know this and a bargain can be had.To the same extent some dates are just not available.(see how many decent 1835 halfcrowns you see)

BTW how much did you you pay for the 1/-?

Yes, at £60 it's thereabouts on price i'd say, though he's a tad strong in the grading, I think! Reverse front paw of lion, and hair and beard detail of bust, all looks a little bit beyond near UNC to me. Without the in-hand experience, I wouldn't even buy at EF (£60 would be my very top price on this one), i'd be trying to catch it for something under that, really, hoping to have a nice surprise, maybe?

I have bought very few BIN's but have got plenty which have best offer option.

Time newly listed is a must for BIN and best offer on pieces that have sat for a few days.

My rule of thumb for best offers is just under 50% of BIN and settle on 50% :)

I start all my coins at 99p...I have been burnt but also pleasantly surprised. :)

I would agree, for an EF example I would expect to see more detail on the lions nose and a little more hair detail on the bust.

There is another UNC 1910 BIN for £120 :o

The £60 one is no longer available (please introduce yourself Coin-Select :) )

Here are a couple of the better ones out of the 32 currently listed on Ebay.

More than a bit of a coincidence? But I guess the purchase/removal could just be a routine business thing, Ed VII is popular!

I am now using half a dozen different dealers but have yet to go to a coin fair, I will be this Spring / Summer! I still use eBay a lot, the risk element is all part of the game I think, I have had some real bargains and paid over the odds for others, and as for the 2 forgeries in January, well ...!

As for the 1910 shilling that started this thread, I was pleased to upgrade from my gF to something with some eye appeal, and will again one day ... I paid £16, which some believe is over the odds and others don't seem to! I like it anyway, however common!

I bought this 320832419613 off the same seller recently, really pleased with it! Common type, no big profit in it, but very nice on the eye I have to say.

I love the toning.

So often BU's are spoilt by carbon spots.
