Charles I Shilling, Middleham hoard

I got this with some other bits. There is a piece of paper with it detailing the Middleham Hoard found it 1993. It was over 5000 coins totalling over £300 face value, which must have been an obscene amount of money in 1647.

This shilling is one of those coins (although impossible to prove), Spink 2799, MM is a triangle in a circle. In case he wants it, Tom Goodheart gets first pop!

I have a Middelham S2793 Tower mint under King MM triangle.

Mine appears to be weakly struck but much nicer than yours.I paid £35 from Saltford

over 12 years ago.Probably about £100 now....OR £295 from Coincraft.

If you can get a photo that makes the most of the bust, I'd say maybe £40?

The last mark was the sceptre (Feb 1647-1649) although only one such coin was represented (in Pot C). The hoard consisted of three separate pots and the last coins in the other pots (A & B) had the sun mark (Nov 1645-Feb 1647) suggesting the last was buried subsequently.
