Mary and Phillip Irish Groat 1555/ 1556

Which example to purchase

  1. 1. Which example would you personally prefer?

I have always wanted a Mary and Phillip Irish groat for my collection, and sadly cannot afford the better examples, but I have managed to find two 'fair' coins both priced at £66. I am having difficulty choosing an example and was hoping for some feedback on the two examples I have managed to locate. Firstly, do you think the price is fair for the grade of coin? and secondly, which example would you personally prefer? I know everyone is different when it comes to personal choices for their own collection, but I am torn on these two.

I am currently leaning towards the 1556 groat even though it doesn't have a full flan.

Any replies would be much appreciated :)

I'm going to be brutally honest here and say NONE. I read your post that you have limited funds, so why not save the 66 quid, add to it and wait for a better example to come along?

I think " azda " has got it right. Even at £20.00 each I would leave

well alone. Spink had this one estimated £100/£120 and it was unsold as no one

wanted it ( Lot 553 28th March 2012 )

Can't believe I didn't just come out and say exactly what you did! I'm just plain dang yeller! I thought, hmmm, bloody-'ell, I couldn't possibly, arghh... And decided not to vote at all!

Thanks for the honesty guys, I honestly do appreciate it. It also makes me see things for what they are, and not rush into rash decisions. I think as you have I should hold out for a better example
