Olympic tickets

Recommended Posts

I have been watching the Olympics today and I am stunned by the empty seats. We had planned to go as a family of 4 for a taste. The tickets were unobtainable.I have an ex Colleague who lives about 1/2 mile from the Olympic areas who has always managed to get tickets for the FA cup etc but he has no contacts for these Olympic tickets. He has said we can bring down sleeping bags but he cannot get tickets. This looks like a corporate farce. :( Plus the BBC are quite inept after watching the Cavendish failure. They hadn't a clue.

I have been watching too Peter, not just a few empty seats I noticed either! It was reported on the News. If you did not see it...

They were apparently the seats allocated to "sponsors", and it is being investigated. I think it is terrible! They should recall ALL the tickets of these sponsors that did not turn up, and offer them out to the public!

On a lighter note, did you catch the opening ceremony? I was actually very surprised at how much I enjoyed it, I thought it was going to be boring, but ended up watching all of it(sneaking for a smoke or two, when the athletes were being paraded).

I was not expecting Mr Bean! That did make me chuckle, and her Maj's willingness to "act" in a comedy sketch was classic :)

Yes the Mark Cavendish thing was a gross failure on two counts - 1. the Beeb computer not flashing up the names of the leaders, or the timing splits, so the commentators just had to guess  and 2. did no-one inform Team GB how far ahead the leading pack were getting? It seems to me that if they'd caught up with plenty of miles to go, they would have given Mark the fighting chance of a sprint finish.

I thought the ceremony was awesome. Nothing could have prepared me for the factory chimblies rising out of the ground, nor the actual forging of one of the five rings that floated overhead to form the Olympic logo. I thought the musical segment was a bit heavy on punk and hip hop, and would have liked a teensy weensy bit of prog in there (though perhaps Bohemian Rhapsody counts as prog?)

Although no a left winger I really did enjoy it.Perfect IMO. :)

You'll have to explain that one Peter! Unless you're against multiculturalism, I couldn't see anything for the Tories to gnash their teeth over.

Be careful what you wish for... I was watching GB vs. Canada today, one of the Canadian girls had a tash like George V!

Have to admit to being a bit curmudgeonly about the olympics when they were annonced. But the opening ceremony was fantastic. Not quite sure why some of the things were given the prominence they were in an international gathering but not to worry about that.

I'm actualy quite excited.

Ticket allocation could have been done much better - what's wrong with turning up at the gate and queuing to pay - by credit card only to prevent cash handling nightmares?

Apparently (according to the commentators) most things featured would be widely known internationally - pop music, Shakespeare, Blake, the Industrial Revolution, James Bond, Mr Bean, Paul McCartney, Chariots of Fire, etc. Not so sure about the Arctic Monkeys, but their cover of The Beatles' "Come Together" while those "doves" slowly flapped their luminous wings in the dark, I thought was a particular highlight.

I'd have thought cash should be far quicker than credit cards!

I watched the men cycle past nearby then popped back to see the Box Hill section and finish on BBC. Close to the end, the commentators were still claiming that TeamGB were riding a perfectly planned race... hmmm, I don't think so! As has been widely reported, timing info was hopeless.

Off to watch hockey later in the week.

Yes Cash would be quicker but security would be such an issue - each gate could be held up, cashiers could have sticky fingers, logistics of moving it around the park to the bank and security in transit. Electronic transfer direct from one bank to another is such a lot simpler. Even if we're not going to get potential interesting items in our change...

you lot are all dirty, beach volleyball indeed >.> there is a reason it is on BBC3... so the dirty minded chavvy teens can watch some soft porn :P

quite intersting the relase of new tickets, as Womans GB football team could get to the semis, against USA (one of the best in the world) at old trafford, which is a reachable event. if GB make it, it will be cheering on GB against one of the bes tin the world, which is a bit special. its a big maybe that one.

I am in no small way chaffed at watching American coverage of the Olympics and hearing their perfidious commentators referring to all Brits as the English. I really want to throw something at the tube, but only if I could actually knock off the talking head.
