It's that simple, i canm even do it with pretty accurate dates.

Scottish kings are funnier... (others before like Roberts I-III, and i'm sure there's a David in there) then from about 1406 James I (died in his slippers), James II (Blown up by his own cannon), James III (murdered by a 'monk'), James IV (died at Flodden), James V (Died shortly after a battle, i think...), Mary (got the chop, many times), James VI, Charles I (also got the chop) etc.

the jury's out on that one...

She was proclaimed Queen but never crowned, but so were Edward V and Edward VIII.

Empress Matilda was accepted as Queen by some but rejected by Stephen's followers and thus is quite often not included in the real monarch list. Despite the fact that she was in a better position than Lady Jane Grey.

Jane Grey of course had her followers and was proclaimed Queen... so in theory she probably should be included as a monarch... albeit a very dubious one.

The 9 days is what really doesn't help though.

And that's Mandy Moore in my avatar (Singer/Actress) [i've heard her sing i can't say i was that bothered, i've never seen her act though)... but with looks like that does it matter?

I just noticed on the webpage that the British Royal Mint has moved to the U.S.:

"For additional information about availability of the British Royal Mint's PCGS-certified coins, contact the British Royal Mint, 14101 Southcross Drive, Burnsville, MN 55337. Phone: (877) 564-6468."

I used to live near Burnsville, and it is about the most un-British place you could hope to find. Even the jungles of Borneo, being properly ex-colonial, are more British than Burnsville, Minnesota.

But now that the BRM has capitulated, I suppose it's not long till the Ammies take over Wales and send all the British coins for grading at PGCS.

At any rate, I am suspect third party grading will be the rule in Europe twenty years from now. I don't know that it will be Sheldon that you will use (and hope not, I think the British system is pretty much fine as it), but I would expect to see more grades for unc. coins in your near future. Too many people have made too much money for it not to happen!

Well to be honest the grades are already there but they aren't used all too often.

UNC, ABU, BU, Gem UNC, Gem BU, Practically as Struck, As Struck, Mint State.

Most of those could go in different places on the MS60-70 scale... MS = 70, As Struck 68-69, Prac. A S = 67, Gem BU = 66, BU = 65, ABU = 64, Gem UNC = 63, UNC = 60-62

BTW Sylvester, there still exists an ancient charitable foundation called Queen Matilda's something or another, but have you considered that if she'd been accepted as the legal heiress of Henry I there would have been no King Stephen pennies at all?

Gem UNC with ABU because even though they have a different appearance, in my opinion, one is not better than the other in most cases.

Going back to the monarchs bit, I learnt a rhyme a few months ago to remember all post-Norman conquest monarchs:

Willy Willy Harry Ste,

Harry Dick John Harry III (say "three")

One two three Neds Richard II (say "two"),

Harrys IV V VI (four five six) then who?

Edwards IV V (four five) Dick the Bad,

Harrys twain and Ned the Lad,

Mary Bessie James the Vain,

Charlie Charlie James again,

William and Mary Anne gloria,

Four Georges William and Victoria

The rhyme does go on from there but it's pretty simple to remember them.
