what are these georgius III coins?

hi..

my grandad used to collect old coins, most look very unexciting. here are the most interesting two.

i was going to put them on ebay, but wanted to know what they were (sixpence etc?) and maybe if the were of value?

They are Brass Guinea/Half Guinea copies. Probably made as gaming tokens by the Victorians, rather than as forgeries at the time.

Not worth a great deal as far as I'm aware. Pop them on ebay and post a link here, i'd like to see how they do, as I have quite a few somewhere.

I have a forgery of a spade guinea. It is struck in brass on a thin flan of about 1mm. It says 1798 and the design looks virtually the same as a real guinea. It has also been holed at some point.

I don't think they are forgeries. The massive difference between the weight of gold and brass, and their high face value would surely mean that no one would accept a brass guinea! I think they were produced for novelty purposes, and then of course again 'In memory of the good old days' by the Victorians.

i have one with that wording Chris, yes Victorian gaming tokens. They had an obsession with Spade guineas
