Should I Be Concerned?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just done a weight & measurement check on my Victorian Crowns. Notice that the old head, seems to weigh around 28.05g,

compare to the Jubilee head 28.30g on average. Can't see any real difference in condition, possibly the jubilee is very fine,

to the old head good fine.

I notice according to Chris Perkins Collectors Coins GB book, he does state approx regarding the weight

of Victorian Silver Crowns, so hopefully this is not significant.

Maybe some one can advise on this.

That's a 1% difference on two crowns with different designs and in different grades. I wouldn't be concerned, to be honest.

After weighing dozens of albeit low-grade Halfcrowns which I bought for scrap, I found they could vary from 12.75g to 14.20g in these lower grades. The point being that, and especially so with a larger coin, that circulation wear can have a surprising and significant impact on weight. Hope that helps!
