The Brussels hoard is a difficult one for me.There are thousands still not on the market and a mass release will cause...shall I say a reduced value on the coins being sold.

I will hold off and see.

I'm sorely tempted but Mrs Peter has put me on stop...for the time ;) I'll be back :P

There are rumours that loads more will be released in the new year.

Be carefull gents.

This is old news. The 80000 British coins in the hoard were bought by Baldwins in 1908 as a single lot. The market has been absorbing them for over 100 years. I suspect they will still overhang the market in another 100 years time. Bite the bullet and just go for what you fancy. The average lifespan of a human being won't allow you to time the market to perfection. Long cross pennies are a market which is unlikely ever to take off into the stratosphere, but if it does - sell.

So how many of us are having a dabble? Will be interesting to see how we do with our respective wants. I have a bid on one lot but will obviously tell you Thursday

Not me. Still searching for that elusive shilling!

Hammer price was £1700, so with commission and VAT would be £2.1k - out of my league.

It's ok to splash out way above normal levels once in a while for a particularly difficult coin as long as you don't make a habit of it when you know you can get that piece quite easily. If you really want something, you usually have to pursue it - hard, and stick with your decision.

I didn't bother in the end, have my eye on a few other bits, and might need to snap some more of Rob's farthing tokens up now I have competition!! :D

I snaffled what looks like a nice farthing a couple of days ago on the 'bay, will get it up when it arrives! :)

I did my usual. Was busy with work so left a proxy bid on one coin, only to be outbid. Now kicking myself and wishing I'd gone higher. I might have saved 200 quid but will probably have to wait a couple of years to find another!
