An interesting read - Lord Stewartby Collection

Recommended Posts

I happened across this recent article about the theft of Lord Stewartby's collection. I don't think it's been linked before and it makes an interesting, though ultimately very sad, read.

That is tragic,a great loss to Soottish numismatics.

I do wonder why the security was so lax

Very well-written article - compelling reading.

Does make you wonder though, if he planned to give it to the nation, why hadn't he already given the collection to a museum with the proviso of unlimited access for himself?

Probably because no study is ever finished. However complete a collection is, another find is always just around the corner. It is quite logical to work on it as long as possible with all the reference material to hand.
