Another very nice coin from what was obviously a quality collection

Oh well..... I was out at £1490! Lost by £20 but wonder what the buyer would have been willing to Pay?

Ebayer bronzepennycollector won it along with another.

His name is Tony Crocker and any Penny collectors will know of him!

I certainly know the name, but surely Colin Cooke sold his collection some years ago?

Yes he did Steve but that only took a relatively short time for Tony to compile. It looks like he is possibly back into the groove? I see you bought his better F15 satin. I meant to bid but forgot so I was pleased that it went to another collector.

Yes, picked up the F15 as it's better than my existing. Still kicking myself for not getting the F106 from 'Fiona'. It could be a long time before I find a better one. Right now I wish I'd gone into 4 figures as it was a beautiful example.

It was gorgeous, and of course, very rare being an F106. Definitely a trophy win.

I think it made top money again. I only went £450 as it was just to upgrade from UNC to lustrous UNC. About £1k was a very good saleroom price on a very good day in my opinion/experience.

You don't have to worry about me bidding as I already have a good example. This is a lovely coin (apart from the dandruff on the reverse photo!) and one I'm sure you'd always be pleased to own. I'm saying that, as someone who missed out on a couple from this collection and still hasn't go over it! :(

It's now at £334 with 18 bids and a few hours to go.

Considering that Michael & Rendell Ingram had one about as good, going for £375 a couple of months ago (and they are not renowned for their cheapness) I think this coin is in danger of going for an unrealistically inflated price again.

Rendells pictures and grading are pretty poor so i'd take his out if the equasion. Its always the same though on ebay, when a seller gets noted for having some nice coins, it spreads like wildfire and inflated prices arre paid by those not in the know. They'll bid like sheep because a coin has a large price and so they'll think its really rare and inflate

The price even more.

That's true, but it's not that often that a good penny collection comes to the market. The most recent example was the 'Edinburgh Collection' sold by Colin Cooke last year. Take a look at the March London Coins Catalogue... there's really nothing of interest penny-wise, apart from the 1909 2 + E. These coins in top condition just don't come along that often and the market reflects that. I missed out on two coins in Fiona's collection at what I regarded as top prices but, on reflection, think is only the true market value right now.

£417 !!!!

couldnt see it being worth that :o:huh:

That's a bit top heavy, I must admit. I paid £300 for my full lustre example a year or so ago.

I noticed that the 1860 beaded border form the same seller only made £157. It had a fair amount of lustre but the reverse suffered from severe cabinet friction (i.e. it was worn), especially around Britannia's fingers.

I had a look at that and quite a few of the beads were missing so i skipped it :)

Well it IS a scarce variety in a high grade. I'm not surprised. That may well set a benchmark for 'price guides' though I suspect they give eBay a wide berth.

No, it was just as good as this one. How can you take it out of the equation if you never even saw it ?

It's his grading that's out, based on the pictures. But this was a good pic and the UNC status was about right.

You had best inform the Guinness Book of records of the time and date if he actually managed to grade one correctly then :D
