Richard II halfpenny

Hello!

Picked up a 'medieval halfpenny' for cheap recently and found it was a Richard II rather than the usual glut of Edwards. Which is nice! However, other than that it's 'civitas London' and of "Rich..d Rex Angl" I can't get much further with it. Can anyone help narrow down a year range that's not just '1377-1399'...?

After much Googling, I'm going with "intermediate issue, London mint (1377-1399 AD ; North 1331b; Withers Type 1)"

Just wondering now whether any research has been done into quite which range of years 'early', 'intermediate' and 'late' RII halfpennies fall into.

Also, this coin cost me just under a fiver. I think that, despite the condition, that has to be a decent price, but would be interested in clarification!

Regardless of cost it is whether you can live with it and get than warm glow when you look at it.Nope not for me.

Peter, I suppose we must both want different things as I do get that warm glow from my Richard II coin. My main aim is to get the best collection I can without spending any unfeasible money, so I'm trying to keep my acquisitions to c£5. I don't think I'd feel much different having a sparkly, un-ragged Richard II halfpenny than I would from having this one as it's more about thinking about the time period that they're from, the mad monarchs whose busts are on them and, with certain coins, being able to pinpoint the year they were made, which can often coinicide with major events in my ancient family history. It's just another nice connection to have!

As a newbie, you ought to be aware that we have a professional pessimist in our midst, who will rubbish every coin you own and value it at 99p But we wouldn't trade him and his stories of Mrs Peter and daughters, for the world

Tangentially, I'm currently in the last days of actually selling my first coin on ebay which is quite exciting. Thinking about it makes me a smile a little as the condition, in some ways, is much below that of the Richard II. I think Peter might be apoplectic at said listing!

Looks normal to me but all hammered are different.

Being a type collector it fits the bill nicely and every thing under £100 doesn't send Mrs Peter into a hissy fit.

Well, if you will use an eye phone when most people apply them to the mouth and ear, don't be too disappointed when Ls look like Ns and the world is square. As regards the blood, I suggest you check yourself rather than the phone.
