OK, I am not getting this. How does one use photo bucket in an idiot's form?

Firstly, you will need to register with PhotoBucket. Once you have done that you will need to login and then you can 'upload' photos from your PC to your online library. Once you have the photos in your online library, selecting one - you will see the links generated for you by PhotoBucket. Click on the 'IMG code' link and the link will be copied into the paste buffer - you can then paste it into a forum post using <Ctrl>v or using <right click>Paste. If you want to check whether it works, use the 'preview post' button before you press 'add reply'.

Right, easy to follow steps...

1) You have a Photobucket account, yes?

2) Log in to it.

3) Don't worry about folders in Photobucket just yet - that'll come later. The root of your Photobucket account is called Library

4) Hit the word Upload at the top of the screen, with a little green arrow next to it.

5) Make sure Upload to... is set to Library. It should be, but just to be sure

6) In the big white box, hit the button marked Browse Files

7) Find you pic on your computer and select Open

8) Wait for the progress bar, and then wait for the correct thumbnail to appear below.

9) Click the thumbnail

10) On the right you'll see a Direct Link box, with an http:// address in it

11) A single click on that address should make it turn Yellow, with the word Copied.

12) Come home to the forum

13) In a New Post or Reply, find the little Picture Icon a couple to the right of the yellow smiley at the top - Insert Image should pop up when you hover over it

14) Left Click it, and ten right-click in the Image URL box, and choose Paste. Then hit the Insert Image button

Save the post like normal and there it is!

Ha ha - a lot more concise than mine, Nick!

I tend to use tiny pic now. Simple and easy, with good quality pics.

All the image hosting sites work on the same principle though. First make sure you have your target picture saved in "my pictures" or its equivalent.

Then click "browse" on the image hosting site, and you will be taken to all your pictures.

Select the one you want and click "upload" on the image hosting site.

Once done copy and paste the URL provided into a post here, and everyone should be able to see your coin.

I do this on all coins where the picture is too big to upload direct from my pictures onto a forum post.

The main issue I found was not uploading the image but getting a good and detailed photo to begin with.

Finding a camera/lens that allows a detailed macro photo is not as straightforward as it sounds. Then you really need a tripod or similar to keep the camera steady. Lighting is important too. At close range, the flash doesn't help and artificial lighting can give off a glare that detracts from the photo.

I ended up using photoshop to crop and to 'clean up' the lighting for the photo I took earlier (see 1868 sixpence thread).

Can I send the photobucket to an email to someone? Wow, that is a lazy thing to say...

So, did you get as far as Step 9 in my instructions, VS?

If you did, and you can click on the thumbnail after the photo is uploaded, is there an Image Links section to the right of the picture of the coin?

If there's no Direct Link box, there should be an Update Link Options you can click, in the Image Links section.

This will take you to the albums page of your account settings. Two things to check here:

1) Look down till you see a list of checkboxes under the Links heading. Make sure that Direct Link is checked.

2) Scroll down further and make sure that Easy Linking Mode is turned on.

Then hit Save.

With these options turned on, your Photobucket setup should be the same as mine!

Then you can resume the original instructions from Step 10 onwards. It might seem complicated, but that's only because I have spelled out every single mouse click. Once you've followed it through it won't seem that complex at all!

You don't paste the URL (web address) directly into your post. It needs to be surrounded with HTML tags. When you're writing a post you'll see some small icons above, which produce bold, underline, italic etc. one of them shows a link (looks like a short chain). To the right of this is an icon which looks like a photo. Click on this and you can paste in the URL of your photo. You'll the see that it automatically surrounds the URL with the necessary IMG (image) tags. It's really easy!

Ah. That probably doesn't help if it's the pasting that is causing the trouble.

I've PM'd you my e mail address VS. If you can send me an attachment of the photo, I'll upload it for you onto this thread.

Open your picture in Photoshop or any image editor.

Reduce the resolution to 72 ppi

Reduce the size to somewhere between 600 and 800 pixels square.

Save as a JPEG and choose a fairly high compression (5 or 7 out of 12 in Photoshop, or just under "Medium" in others).

Then upload here as an attachment. You should be within even the miserly 150k limit.

Try this VS When you are in your photobucket pics, if you put your cursor over the pic you want a little cog should appear in the top right corner (1)

Click on the cog and a drop down menu appears (2) You want "Share"

click in the "IMG codes" area and your computer should pick those up (3)

then go to your post here and right click your mouse and click 'paste' and the code should be dropped into the post and appear as a photo when we read it.

And going to that external site was a complete waste of fecking time  . Your picture was much much smaller than you would even get here if you followed the advice I gave above.

What's worse, I had to use the Goback button about 12 times before I could get back to here. What you need is advice on how to post the image to Photobucket with a link so it appears HERE without our having to leave this site. That's what Dave does, maybe he will explain how to do it?

That's what I do too, simply click on the 'IMG code' entry the CTRL + 'v' or right-click paste in here, eh viola!

And I tend to open different apps in separate browser windows, much easier
