My first post,hello everybody.

My son found this coin while refurbishing a pub and asked me to find out if it is worth anything to be honest.

Just a few quid in that grade, Chilly, I'm afraid. Send it off to the slaughter on eBay and be glad it goes to someone who wants it. It probably will sell, but not for much...

Yes, just a couple of quid, I'm afraid. I'd say keep it in your wallet as a talking piece, it's not everyone who finds a 200+ year-old artefact at work! :)

I'd agree with Coinery regarding keeping it, you never know, it may encourage your son into collecting Coins, there's worse things he could do.

If you found it then its part of the history of your pub. That's valuable then as an historical value to you and your son. I'd love to find something like that in my place!

I think you're leading him astray with your twopence, Peck :D

A penny looks like this:

I always love to flash my cartwheel :)

http://www.omnicoin.com/viewcoin/973636

I just WISH I could still use a camera in the fiddly way required to photograph coins. Unfortunately, the picture above is an original scan (modest size), brightened and then enlarged greatly in Photoshop. Not a recipe for a 'phwoar'!! I just wish you could see the coin as it really is :(

I'm sure it's a great coin... but it's a twopence? :D

Yes - you mean the OP coin isn't? I can usually tell, but that one's a bit worn!

Check the pointing of the trident, Peck. Straight at an N for the twopence, between N and I for the Penny...

The OP coin is a penny with 10 leaves (Peck 1132). I look at the hair tie, which is different on the twopence.

Ah, never used that method before Declan - I always tell by size :D No seriously, if it's only a picture I can usually tell from the portrait : the twopence has more head in proportion to bust than the penny.

Oi. What about the halfpenny and farthing? Both point to the N with the farthing marginally closer to the centre. So we can categorically state that pennies are the oddballs. Nothing new there then. ;)
