That's just over £21 each. And you've got to find 2794 collectors of farthings, who haven't already got one, or who are prepared to trade up in grade. That's a very long term investment.

At £14k-18k estimate you'd need your bumps felt to go anywhere near it. Regardless of "catalogue or book price" a sensible estimate would have been £500-£700 and then let the 2 bidders slug it out.

I'll bare my arse in woolworths poundlands window if that lot gets away at anywhere near that estimate.

It mus be Lobel or some such numpty to even consider that purchase price, with the Royal Mint as under or over-bidder, choice uncirculated farthing cased with certificate for £125 each anybody?????

Yes I believe it was a person who runs a company similar to the London mint office. I do know the person just can't remember his company name!!! It will be definitely for some sort of promotion, certificate maybe box and a nice high price targeted at the public as opposed to the real coin collector!!!

My guess would be an ads in the mail and express/ telegraph , telling the story (and a great one it is too), a nice little plush box (imported from china @ £2 each.
