George IV 1821 Crown F-

Recommended Posts

For buying a Georgian Crown 'on the cheap' this one looks quite a decent proposition for only £15: higher graded versions become expensive. OK, it shows distinct wear but it doesn't seem that bad to me(for a coin 183 years old!) and I wonder if a grading of F- is on the conservative side.

I will appreciate the views of members please.

Some people would grade that as fine. I'd tend to be more strict. Some parts of the design show significant wear - especially on the reverse.

I think F- is about right.

I must say that I am unsure about the collectability of this one -I am keen to acquire a Georgian Crown and perhaps I'll wait for a better one and 'grin and bear' the price

I tend to grade much the same as Andy, i've done business with him on several occasions before... i agree with AF.

One thing to watch for though is cleaning, sometimes he doesn't state it as being cleaned when it has (usually he does), perhaps he thought that 1750 sixer i bought from him had cabinet rub rather than cleaning, i disagreed. The price was right though for a cleaned specimen so no qualms there. I kept it and then resold it when a better one came along, but i wasn't exactly happy about it.
