Cartwheel / Penny Coins

Hi,

I now know I have a penny / cartwheel but have been searching around to find out why mine has a large "WM" inscription on the face. I'm guessing this is some form of advert or a mark to signify where it was manufactured. Any ideas. Are some more valuable than others? ( or worth less ? ).

If anyone could let me know or give me some ideas where to look that would be great.

I'm afraid it devalues in significantly. Is it a stamp or etched in with something sharp, like a knife? Some coins etched with a knife are graffiti pieces, perhaps mocking the King etc.

I used the have a Geo IV penny like that but they'd scratched a pipe on, it amused me heartily when i first saw it, infact that's why i bought it in the first place! (nothing like a good political statement!)

Thanks for you help, The WM is a definitely a stamp rather than a scratch. It looks as though it was done at the same time as the coin was made as it is as deep as the inscription around the edge of the coin and has a distinct type face. I'll upload an image so you can see,
