I'm not a member of any party, but I do think that Farage has played an key part in starting a proper debate on some important issues. There's been a lot of 'me too' from the other parties since he did this. I'm not saying he's right, but I do believe that our national democracy is at least worth discussing before we hand it over to Herman Van Rompuy (he of the 'low grade bank clerk' description) and his ilk in Brussels!

I read the first line about "shamelessly..." and that was enough, no need to waste any more energy on the rest! My God, we'll be burning witches and hanging the blacks in no time! I'm wholly disgusted to be a part of a society that still allows such shameless disgrace in politics...or any area of our lives!

I'm wholly disgusted to be a part of a society that still allows such shameless disgrace in politics...or any area of our lives!

Thanks for the heads-up on UKIP! If a man can remain in ANY party following such a statement, it's not, or ever will be, a party for me!

Don't kid yourself. A group of two will have diverging views. A political party will have as many views as members, some of which you will agree with, some you won't. Although all will pay lip service to the general policies of the party, more than a few individuals will have views you find disagreeable at the least. It doesn't matter whether your views are left or right because at the extremes of both sides they are much, much closer to each other than the moderates of either persuasion.

I totally understand that they pander to our most popular percentage to win power but, if the day ever comes that the UK degrades itself to such devoluted views (and only conscience can presently define those) en mass, then I'm done with this society!

The difficulty for any smaller party is that the big 3 all have very extensive and well established mechanisms to filter out 'off message' opinions and actions, it doesn't mean they aren't there. Occasionally they appear and cause a major headache - take the Labour councilors in Liverpool in the 80s, for example. UKIP, having appeared from nowhere and, needing to appoint hundreds of unknown candidates at all levels (prospective Councilors, MEPs & MPs), are going to struggle and the fruitcakes will undoubtedly present themselves. The party should be judged more by their reaction to the nutters than by the fact that they exist. This man should be dumped immediately.

Most people are tolerant of many things. Most also have a leaning to one party or another. None will claim they are trying to revoke basic values. You can count the legitimate parties on both hands. There are a much larger number of individuals who have to align themselves with one of these meaning all parties will have their black sheep. I believe that in the case of UKIP, many voters support it simply for its stance on Europe which is unambiguous, not because of some nutter from Henley-on-Thames invoking the wrath of God. He moved in and can't represent their mainstream view.

Many people have already abandoned politics by not bothering to vote. This will only further the case for abstention.

I so very much hope so! I really don't fancy suspending myself from important buildings in defiance of a system I can't survive in! I struggle with it all as it is!
