George Iii Half Sovereign(Fake?)

Recommended Posts

Hello Numismatics,

I have what I think is a gold half sovereign from 1819, it belongs to a collection of coins that belonged to my grandfather.

With the provided photos can anyone tell me if this is real? It would seem from research that this must be a fake, as none

were reportedly made in that year (half sovereigns). Anyway, I'm a complete novice, so would appreciate any help, opinions

etc.

Many thanks,

Sorry, but yes, a certain counterfeit coin!

Just out of interest, what makes you say half-sov? It looks more HC in design?

I agree with Stuart. It's an 1819 halfcrown forgery.

Thanks, very useful and cleared up any confusion :-)

In terms of the Half-Sovereign description rather than Half-Crown, I couldn't find an exact match on any of the descriptions on the auction sites, or expert sites describing the coin itself. E.g. Garter around the coat of arms. I'm a novice .... although more enlightened now thank you :-)

Cheers,

Stu
