Spink March Auction Now Online

What am I doing wrong. Some lovely coins coming up in Spinks upcoming auction in March. I've signed in and chosen several coins to track. Then I go to MySpink to view my tracked lots, but it shows none tracked. What the?

Their I.T. function / department is the worst...dont even try to talk to them either ....the totally bored sounding Eastern European bloke that you always have to speak to clearly should be doing something else as in my experience he shows no interest at all in what you are saying to him, mind you, thats probably the corporate line as the other bloke who owns Spink has no interest in UK coin collectors either......I really miss Paul Dawson.!

Anyway, I have to say that there are a few some nice pieces in this sale....I sold my entire 40 year collection last year between DNW / LCN / SPINK / St James's (I like to spread the love...) to fund my retirement and I said, "thats it, no more coins".......well, that didnt last long...

Well, I like to think it was mostly strategic inasmuch as over the years of buying and selling with these companies, I had what I personally considered to be a reasonable view of what I believed to be the strenghts and weaknesses of each of these auction houses, in relation to what I was selling...also they were all amenable to doing a deal as the value of the total consignments in each case was quite high.

Also, part of me didnt want to put all my retirement fund in one basket ....I did some due diligence, as best I could, on each of them in terms of their financial situations. You can never take that for granted these days ..especially as the sales process is quite prolonged...i.e you have to consign a month or two prior to auction then you have to wait another month or so to get paid...and then they all pay by cheque so another period before clearance....you are waiting 3 - 4 months to get your money....a lot can and does happen in that time....so I figured it would be unlikely that all 4 of them would go bust at the same time !

Overall I was pleased that I did consign the majority of the collection to auction and certainly regretted not selling all my coins through auction as the ones that I sold privately in the early days to dealers and collectors a like,I realised was a financial mistake in terms of selling them too cheaply...I could have got a lot more at auction.

My first (and somewhat arbitrary) guess at auction houses strengths..

LON : pennies and coppers, encapsulated

DNW : milled silver

Spink : all rare coins but mostly hammered

StJames : milled and hammered gold,

Baldwins : tokens, proofs and patterns

Just got to my desk and checked St. James. Luckily I missed the only three pennies as I've spent way too much recently!

How did you see the price of the Henry VIII sovereign, Rob? The Salesroom just states 'not available for on line bidding' and gives no selling price.
