Has It Been Cleaned?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

just out of curiosity, has it been cleaned?

Ive cleaned few GV half crowns to see how they cleaned coins look and they look very similar to this.

Thanks

Maybe at one point a while back? But I'm not too sure..

What makes me say that is the 'whiteness' around the writing. I think the more open areas build up a patina quicker but the letters always seem to have a halo effect around them after they've been cleaned and toned a bit.

Someone else can probably give you a more definitive verdict :)

if that is the real colour. light grey, then I would say no, looks good to me. I would hazard a guess and say that the actual coin is darker than in the pic due to the flash!

I would say that more importantly it doesn't look as if the coin has had any abrasive applied to remove dirt. That's the killer, not lifting off dirt with soapy water or acetone which can give variable results depending on where and how much dirt was present.

It looks good to me - if it ever was cleaned, it was long ago and has toned back.
