For a start that's a half-penny not a farthing :P

But probably aEF/EF? Although it's hard to be exact from the picture..

No worries!

Don't take my word as gospel though, as I'm sure others will have their own opinion of grade..

Can I ask what variety of ha'penny this is? What makes it rare? I don't have Freeman to hand to check...

Sure, I have no Freeman but in the Worldcoins it' s 748.2 (A to left of lighthouse)

VF 350 $ and XF 1250$.

Ah yes, I can see it now. I did wonder if that's what you meant by Farthing 1862 "A" but was hard to tell from the photo!

Nice coin by the way Patrick :)

I can't actually see the scratches (the photos are quite dark) but if I was a buyer I would be quite happy with the description "EF, slight scratches on obverse".

It is this coin that I had in mind when I' m wrong title in this topic.

I hope you understand now.

It' s not Worth much but it' s Wonder.

This coin is black, but there are a die break front of buste, over the letters.

Thank

I thought the same until I zoomed my screen, then I saw it was definitely an A.

I've not seen that before. Interesting coin Patrick. What was the purpose of the A may I ask?

I'm not familiar with the English coins. I wanted to know if it was in XF or more.

Thank you

It's likely to be a die identifier - they were very interested in die durability just after the changeover to bronze.

some dies were never used, I dont think I have ever seen an unlettered 1862 with die letter B (L.C.W. in the middle, under britannia) for example
