I got caught on a speed camera!

When I drove 800 miles from Rochester to Chemnitz in Germany via Delft in the Netherlands I got caught on a speed camera just around the corner from my destination in Germany! With about 2 miles left I got caught on a speed camera, can you believe it!

We got a photo in the post today. I was doing 64KPH on a 50KPH stretch of road. Fortunatley, the German police aren't the money grabbing &%*!?@+ that the UK police are sometimes claimed to be, and this will cost me a mere EUR25.00 (£16.66) and no points.

Bummer. I got caught twice in 5 weeks on the M4 in South Wales earlier this year, by these new "Camera protection units". They are white trasit type vans that sit on bridges over the motorways, and can clock you at a mile away. (with photos). They have little flaps that open in the side of the vans, and a camera lens sticks out. By the time you see them its too late." Big brother is here".

Buy a snooper! My granddad has one and they're super - they detect all the kinds of camera and give adequate warning.

They sell blank music CDs in shops that's legal, but depending upon how you may be inclined to use them that part is not.

Actually if burning a CD without copyright is illegal then recording songs off of the radio onto a tape is equally illegal as is recording a backup copy of a CD onto a tape.

Yes, but Snoopers have a specific purpose, nothing else can be done with them. They can hardly be used for "research purposes". Cds on the other hand - data can be recorded onto them, not just music, games etc.

Exactly... though i think Oli has a point that you can use them for data. But they are branded as being for 'Music'.

It's kinda like magic mushrooms legal to grow and pick, illegal to cook/use.

They are 'imation CD-R' and i have tried to save data onto one of them before but my pc just said something along the lines of 'this type of document/file is not compatible with windows medie player 5.0 or higher'

It doesn't really matter... Oli may want to record his own music (that he composed and played) onto the CD, which is enough to establish that they have a non-infringing use.

It didn't. This one was EUR250.00 and 3 German points! The good thing is that German points will never affect me because I have a UK licence, and the DVLA don't get to know about them, so the points were rather pointless.

I wondered then about what fun it would be to collect points from as many European countries as possible.

I think the law on 'snoopers' is particularly strange.

As I understand it, it's legal to have one. It's legal to use one to know where there is a speed trap. But it's actually illegal to act on the info!!! Work that one out...

The project I'm currently working on has 4 cameras.

There is only film in one and that changes!!!!!!

When they were first installed it was like a disco....they certainly improved the traffic flow

and helped safety.

It is legal to make a back up copy of a CD you own. For example, if you own a CD and have it at home and you copy it to have it in the car, it is legal, as it is your CD that you are coping.

If you give it to some one else then that is not legal, if they don't have an original.

Making a 'back up' copy of your own cd's is NOT legal. I've done work with the performing rights society and believe me that one's a myth. Won't stop me though!

Wearing my academic musician's hat I second what Don Camillo's Godson says. For our stundents to make legal copies we have to have valid licences from the MCPA and ERA. Making copies at home for whatever purpose is illegal in the UK.

Back to the speed cameras - our local radio tell us in the morning where the police will be pointing their

mobile cameras around the area - the only useful piece of info on the radio !!
