1908 Penny Variety

Hello all,

I have this 1908 penny that I took out of a bundle. I am trying to get with grips with all of the Edward varieties as there appear to be some minute variations! I believe the rarest variety is the 1*+C if I am correct? I count this coin as having the 1 in date pointing to a tooth and the date covering 11 border teeth whereas the others in my bundle have 13. Are there date spacing variations for the 1908? Sorry for the poor scans, it is new and I am just about getting to grips with it.

1* + C is the rarest combination of the 1908's, you're correct there.

Groom notes that the are minor varieties where there are different date spacings, as such;

1. A short 9 with a narrow date. The 8 is centered over a space between teeth.

2. A short 9 with a wider date. The 8 is centered over the left of a tooth.

3. A longer 9 with a very wide date. The 8 is centered over a tooth.

I'm not sure why you've picked that coin out, Jack, but it isn't a 1* obverse, if that's what you were asking? They are very rare and distinguished by the colon after BRITT aligning with a border tooth. Here's mine:
