The first is a penny of George V. The second penny has toning assuming you are referring to the purplish marks. That is a normal transition from full original lustre through a purple colour where it has been handled, to an even brown colour when the surfaces are fully oxidised. This colour will darken over time.

Neither have any real value on account of the wear to the first and the number in existence of the second. Most 20th century coins need to be in high grade to have much value and even then isn't guaranteed if a common date.

Yes, no problem, but be aware that the forum is divided into various areas of interest - e.g. British coins, Ancients, Foreign etc. So you could have a look first at the forum's main index page which lists all the different sub-forums.

We have another woman here - Debbie - who collects love tokens and other engraved items. We're too biased towards male members so another woman collector is welcome! (You might find we take you a bit more seriously if you pick an avatar that is a coin or humorous or else a true likeness! The image you chose is almost identical to a Romanian gold digger who posted here once, "looking for luuuurv" i.e. a rich Western European with loadsamoney lol  )

I,see from your profile that you inherited coins from your dad. Maybe you can tell us the dates and denominations. You also play the s@x? Good for you, i love my bagpipes blown too :)

I think everyone here loves giving their opinion on coins so I doubt you'll cause much of a headache posting up for help :)

It's not too bad, much better crispness to the obverse than the reverse and the price is... OK. The reverse really lets it down though, and there's some ghosting going on too (where the bust is visible through the reverse). It all depends on your collecting needs though, some people don't go for high grade while others/most do..

Best thing to do is to get yourself some books in your area of collecting to brush up on knowledge, there are some great books available through this website too. If you want a rough price guide - and please don't treat it as gospel - then I highly recommend Tony's site (http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/), I've always got it open as a quick reference and it's great for additional information as well as the prices!

(I also love the mugshot he puts on his homepage :))

That's Derek's listing (Red Riley on this forum). As Nordle said, it really depends on what grade you want to collect as to whether you bid. Coins 'speak' to you when they are attractive in your eyes so that you might accept a lower grade piece when it has a lot of eye appeal.

Hello Wendy - more ladies always welcome! :)

As Peck has already said I collect love tokens and engraved coins, so I don't get too bogged down with grading, varieties and slabs

I do however collect the odd shilling now and then! You will get lots of helpful and expert advise on here.

Hi guys awww cheers for ya input on this i also thought the reverse let it down too to be honest with you guys! i really do appreciate this too! i have been doing a hell of a lot of research latley about my coins and also about the coins i am so interested in also ,my dad tried to teach me so well bless him & i am actually really wanting to sell most of the coins he left to me because.... well how can i say? well im just gonna be honest with you guys on here oh and also Debbie too! i have also lost my mum she died within a month of my dad, he died in march and mum died in april so unfrortunatly for me i have been left with two funeral bills which amount to nearly £10,0000 so hence why i need to get some cash help but im hoping i dont come across as desperate? although a lot of folk will see it as that ? but im genuine, im just in a bit of a pickle shall i say ! anyway i have said the truth and im really hoping you wont boot me out of here cos i dooooo love my coins and all the coins my dad left me too and i do believe my dad taught me well too? I am so sorry but i aint gonna lie to you all but im just quite stuck & in a very shall i say ...... awfull position? but hey ive been honest with you guys & gal (Debbie) too, so im really hopin you all will help me out with identifying my other coins you have yet to see and maybe give me some direction as to what they are worth etc, i really wish i did not have to try sell them but needs must, all i can i say to you all is that i am totally being honest with you all, i do understand though if you boot me out though, sometimes honesty is not the best policy but sometimes honesty can be the best policy and there is always at least that one person in the entire world ? who will try to give you the benefit of the doubt and try their best to help you and believe me just of late i really could do with some friends like that as im in a dark place just now and im missing my mum and dad so much, but its ok if you get rid of me for telling the truth though as i know this forum is not a site to help people whom have lost loved ones but im hoping i can sell some of my dads coins though xxx im totally being 100 % honest & upon request i can prove it too, please dont throw me out, Thanks for reading too, Wendy xxxxx

Sorry to hear about your parents - it must be quite a shock . I don't think that for one minute that you would be "booted out" we all like looking at whatever coins you may have and who knows they may well be of interest to someone on here (have you got any that have been engraved?!).Why not post up some pictures of your late fathers most treasured coins?

Use a site such as photobucket.com or tinypic.com and then post the image URL using the image tab.

Here's a small tutorial:

If you like it contact Derek through his profile here to see if you can do a deal outside ebay save some money :)

Welcome Wendy !

Sad to read about your parents. It is bad enough without financial pressures as well. :(

Hope you enjoy the forum, I've only been here ~8 months and I think it's great.

Kind Regards

Garrett.
