Andriulis

Shilling 1920. Where is the difference between Spink 4023 and 4023A

Recommended Posts

The first has a more deeply engraved neck, the second is shallower. If in doubt, the I of GEORGIVS points to a bead and a space respectively.

The 1921 shilling also has both obverse varieties, but the earlier type is much rarer - don't be misled by Spink who don't seem to realise this simple fact.

It's the shallow portrait, 4023A.

I agree. A major pointer to it (especially on no-longer-mint examples) is the space between the legend and the border teeth - it's twice the gap on the later, shallow, issue.

4023. I of GEORGIVS to bead. The shallow one is to space.
