1929 penny

Does anyone have the latest value for a BU 1929 penny?

My latest one is £40 but this is a bit out now.

CCGB 2014 has it £30 UNC. A BU price isn't listed, but it would be £40 (1930 is £30/£40, and 1930 is a bit more difficult.)

Take Spink prices for modern with a large pinch of salt - they wouldn't sell one for that price. :) CCGB is more accurate from a 'real world' perspective.

I was just looking for a price guide as I have seen one with quite a bit of eye appeal and wanted to check the prices

I'd expect to pay £65 for a gem but then the price curve to fall pretty sharply.

e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1929UNC-KING-GEORGE-V-BRONZE-PENNY-/400740606633?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item5d4e0062a9 is not a £50 coin even relative to Spink's £65 in my opinion.

Very little remaining lustre, some rubbing to the cheekbone, average strike ... you'd be lucky to get £20 for that one IMO. I think a real gem COULD rate £65, but not your average BU.

Definitely! Where's the lustre?

I've had a nice 1929 for a while but it's clearly been cleaned in the past, I've kept an eye on the ones on eBay but can never find one cheaper than around £30-40..

Nice penny :)

I don't mind mine, especially as it was a tenner, but it shows some serious haloing around the legend. The rest of it doesn't look to bad but it's a big contrast against the '28 and '30 either side of it!

Yeah, my 1930 has patchy lustre which is in distinct contrast to all the others in that series including a BU 1932.

Funnily enough I was bidding on this yesterday - Link - and managed to get it for £4.31 :D The wait paid off..

Unfortunately it's the other way for me, the 1930 is pretty much BU however my '32 has a slightly patchy lustre to it, although when looked at in a nice bright light it looks a lot better haha :P

Wow, that's an amazing capture! You did really really well there. Just make sure the coin-in-the-picture is the coin-you-get!

Well here is my purchase,

I don't know if there are any varieties in the 1929 if someone with better knowledge of this could enlighten me.

What you you guys grade this and have a guess at what I paid.

The pictures aren't quite as crisp as they might be so I'm going to say GEF or AU. Book price would be around £20 - £25 so I'm guessing you paid less than that?

Yeh, they are phone pictures so not the best quality and don't compare to it in hand it was sold as BU but I would give it a UNC because its hasn't got as much lustre as a BU But I think I am just being picky, I can't fault it personaly

Paid £10

That's unnervingly like Nordle's buy! But still, a worthy tenner's worth :) (Anyone still reckon Spink's prices bear any relation to the real world?? :D )

bar the carbon spot next to the O i would say they are quite close.

Indeed I'm quite happy with it

Ah, the second lot of pictures is much much better :)

Lovely coin, and what a bargain for a tenner too!!

Although yours has the carbon spot (which isn't too intrusive), mine has quite a bit of ghosting by looking at the pictures. I'll soon see when it turns up!
