Hi, just joined today and glad I did read the website.

I wasn't sure how to clean the large collection of coins I've had passed down to me. Turns out from the advice I shouldn't!

Thanks for the helpful advice on the webpage about the coins etc. I'll be back frequently to get more advice about what to do with them all. I've never had interest in coins but the more I look through them all, the more they intrigue me (and not just from a possibly valuation point of view). Some go back to the early 1800s and I wonder what life was like when these coins were in circulation and handled by people of that time.

Sorry that's the genealogist in me; I'm more happy researching my family tree but somehow these coins seem relevant even to that.

Welcome CC! Indeed, cleaning is not recommended!

The other thing to remember is that we like photos of coins as much as, if not more than, talking about them. You might like to look at the thread here: http://www.predecimal.com/forum/topic/7880-posting-pics/

As for the 1800s life was very similar but TV was rubbish and there were no mobile phones.

Or was that the 1980s? I forget ...

:P

LOL! I was worried I wouldn't fit in on this forum! Thanks for the nice welcome. I'll certainly read up all the 'advice' pages.

Don't worry about not fitting in. I'm odd as those who know me will vouch, but have lasted over 9 years so far.

See if there is a coin in the collection that still has plenty of detail in the design and not rubbed away over time. Don't worry if it's dark and dull.. Then send us a photo ...

Dark and Dull would fit in with most of us, I suppose...
