Thanks for the welcome folks - much appreciated.

My main collecting theme is going to be shillings, that said I'm a bit of a magpie and will collect anything that takes my eye.

One of my other collections is the WW1 British War Medal, my aim is to collect one example to each line regiment / corps etc...

I also enjoy wandering around with my metal detector in the hope of finding bits for the collection :)

Best wishes,

Russ.

Shillings are a good denomination to collect - not too small, yet not SO popular that prices are out of reach.

Yeah and so am i peck.Unless you live in salford or stretford your a blue

That's exactly what I was saying. What's the biggest joke outside Manchester? It's where all the United supporters come from! Hence Roy Keane's 'prawn sandwich' swipe a few years back...

YAY. That's the North-West sorted out with a slew of anti-Stinky folks (my pet name for the 'orrible 'united). Watch out for scott though - he's that rare beast, a Mancunian AND a red.

Let's play this - what position in the table do people think Man U will finish in the table this year?

I will be generous and say 5th. :D

By the way, there's a coin club in Manchester Russ (is that still going Rob, I don't know the name of it? I remember you took a moody Chas I shilling I had along on one occasion ...)

I'm a member of the South Manchester which meets in the Nursery on Green Lane, 1st and 3rd Monday of each month (Sept - June). Alternatively you have the Lancs and Cheshire which meets at Manchester Museum on certain Saturdays, but I'm not sure which ones.

Isn't there a United club of green and yellow fame heading slowly towards the League? (I'm still hoping that AFC Wimbledon overtake those usurping Dons..)

[Hey, how about this for a coincidence .. I've popped in here and guess what's playing on my iTunes (shuffle mode)? "I Collect Coins" by Mercury Rev from Deserters Songs!]

Welcome Russ. Remember we like photos of coins too! Feel free to post a few from your collection if you can.

Are your shillings all milled or any hammered? Why do I ask? Er .. just curious!

:D
