Although the thread was about coins not even sen to c.g.s. ,When a coin comes back from them even if rejected they are still given a grade. They dont however put a value on i.e unc cleaned rejected

Surely the value is what you paid and not what CGS tells you it is. if Spink tells me my coins is XXX i'll just take that with a pinch of salt

Hi azda. Sorry what i meant is coins sent to c.g.s., that are rejected are stll graded and not given a value in their opinion.I could put a coin away for years and if spending a few thousand on a couple of pennies as i did last week would not want the person i left them for have a lot of junk. When i started this thread it was because even a novice like me could tell coins were not as described as they should of been and got Fxxxxx of keep sending them back.

Its the hunt for a good coin that keeps me interested in the hobby. It's your right to send them back if you Feel they are not up to scratch, my Suggestion would be that if you're happy with what Neil has been selling you Then keep Looking amd asking from him, also a few other dealers on here sell good stuff, you just need to keep checking at what they have, we are a fussy bunch on here.

Not to derail the thread, but one story I have always wondered about is how Dolphin (Bob I.) managed to get those Pretoria mint proof and patterns - apparently had nearly all of the Brit specimens at one time?!

In the 'old days' many coins, even expensive ones, weren't photographed on dealers' lists so grading had to be taken on trust. I also bought quite extensively from Grantham Coins in the 90's and generally their grading was reasonable. Over-graders included D J Traynor (what happened to him?) . These days I'd say Mark Rasmussen was a harsher grader than most - his NVF is most people's VF, Studio Coins of Winchester are good too.

Yes. One of the people mentioned above was the person I was referring to (allegedly..) in my post a couple of weeks ago. I won't say who, for fear of legal repercussions on Chris, so Don't Jump To conclusions. ;)

I would not say a bad word about anyone over a forum.I just feel that in a lot of coins advertised and resold it is a shame to see the up grade.I understand people in any business need to make a living ,but would like a bit of integrity. One forum member was kind enough to send me a mail ,a number of coins were sold at a recent spink auction. The grades and the amount the seller wants seem good business buy something for £600 and then resell for twenty times more. I love people making money ,however if i buy a coin and dont get what was described become dissapointed having to return it .Lately this seems to be getting more frequent.

Be lucky .

Admins can 'warn' a member for being naughty. Not sure how the points thing works. I think it just comes as part of the forum software. People can also 'like' posts, though I don't now if many use it.

I only use the warning system for spammers .. the forums I'm a moderator for it enables me to block a member from making further posts. Those I'm not, a message goes to someone higher up so they can review a thread or posts.

I don't think I've ever used it just to tell someone off. We're all adults here and unless something's libellous or directly personal I tend to leave it be.

Not sure? It might be worth double-checking your posts before posting, maybe??? There are a number which are difficult to follow, and sometimes (unintentionally, I'm sure) misleading, on account of punctuation, maybe????

I could be a million miles away, so apologies...just throwing ideas at it?

??? When I view your Member Profile PWA I don't see any warning points. You have seven 'Likes' from other members though, so I don't think you have anything to worry about!

However if something I can't see is appearing and it concerns you then do feel free to take a screenshot and send it to Chris P. Could be a glitch?

C'mon, PWA, no-one judges anyone on here for grammar (except in fond banter), it's a general understanding in a modern society that intelligence doesn't ride side by side with exams and a degree!

As far as I'm concerned, if a man can make enough money in life that he has the luxury of buying quality coins, he is beyond grammatical reproach as far as I'm concerned!

I can't afford the EII set at the moment, PWA!

Might we see the images that sold the coins in the first place, before we hang the dealer? Edited by Coinery

Lets not be hanging dealers in public, we have our favourites and ones where we've been bitten once and 2nd time shy. Its an individual choice whom people buy from, but i'd also be interested in seeing the pictures
