Has anyone got a Spink 2005 yet? I want to spend my book vouchers on them but I cannot find one anywhere. My local Ottakers just has the 2004 catalogue.

Edit: Incorrect title- Sponk 2005!

Nope, although the sale of my 2004 issue pays for the new one! Try Waterstones, in the Antiques & Collectables.

I think the first batch sold out sharpish. I should be getting one soon from a dealer friend.

(Sponk :lol::D )

I was going to sell my Spink 2004 but I have given it to my friends dad. He collected loose change from when he was a young boy working as a 'bakers boy'. He stopped collecting aver 40 years ago and I am told that most of his coins are in superb condition. He tried to value them ten years ago and he said that the valuation was 'substantial' so I am waiting to see what this valuation produces. He would never sell any of his coins though (sentimental value).

I doubt that values will have gone down in Spink (I still think that they may be controlling the market prices).

If you look at an early 80s catalogue and compare it to one now... also taking into account inflation you'll notice that prices were higher back then.

I think by the early 90s the market had subdued.

I wonder when the next 'dip' in the market will occur...........

Why those dates?

How do you know? What brings you to that opinion?

I am not challenging your opinion, with my lack of knowledge on the market, I would not dare even to think about it, I just want to understand the reasons.

Thanks.

It just something another collector told me. He say the British prices have been rising and rising and rising and it's come to the final quick rise pattern and then it's time for the drop.

I don't confess to understand all the economics behuind it but this guy knows what he's talking about.

The slow down is coming but no one knows exactly when, early 2005 is probably too early but come summer prices will either go up or begin to receed, if they begin to stagnate and receed then the dip will probably occur for the remainder of the noughties. I'd go for 06/07 and price reductions in some areas, and freezes in others from 06/07 onwards... with prize freezes of course the price looks to remain the same and so you thinkit hasn't gone down but inflation reduces the value anyhow.

I think by the end of the decade things will have calmed down price wise, well for a short while.

The market will continue to rise....just look at how Ebay prices are increasing for TAT.

The Dollar will climb back against the £.

Uncle Sam connects to OUR coinage because of his limited history...plus UK coinage seems to be the most

consistant since year dot...if you see what I mean.

I'm not going to chuck money into the pension vortex.

Apart from the above....coins stimulate the mind and I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't have a liking for them. :)

Just watch, wait and see...

(I forget where the original post is, but i can find it if i look), it's much more eloquently put there.

If the last high pricing was in 1980, i think that prices will continue to rise much longer than 2006/7...the internet was not around in the 80's, and the internet is a great 'storage' of coins :)

It was advertised as being published on 8 October. Mine is on order directly from Spink and it hasn't arrived yet. Advance publication dates are usually an excercise in wishful thinking anyway.G
